Nice Ask Week! If Tarlos was Australian, what favorites/hobbies/habits would they have?
hello courtney! thank you for this ask (it's really late, i'm so sorry).
called up my fellow australians for this task because it wasn't easy. the truth is, we don't have that many quirks. most of the fun stuff is the wildlife that can kill you.
i'm from melbourne (in the south-east of the country) and there's a huge italian presence in this city, which means we have both incredible food and coffee. melburnians are known to be coffee snobs, and i think if carlos lived here he would definitely get in and amongst the coffee culture. it's also a bit of a foodie-dream city, so i feel he'd fit right in.
as for tk...he'd definitely be one of those kids who lived down at the beach in summer. he probably did nippers (a surf life-saving program for kids), because owen would have wanted him to learn swim safety.
one question which divides the nation is whether you're a diehard fan of rugby league or australian rules football. some people (me) aren't really into either, but typically people follow one or the other. my state is super AFL heavy, so i'm better acquainted with that. if tarlos had to pick a team...i'm going to say carlos is giving geelong vibes for absolutely no reason whatsoever. tk, on the other hand, he's a little feral. not collingwood level but i could see him getting around richmond. no shade to anyone who follows AFL please i'm from melbourne and i loosely follow the brisbane lions so...who am i to judge.

1959 Lipton tea bags arrive in Australia.
Although tea bags were invented in the 1920s, they made few inroads into tea drinking in Australia for the next 50 years. There is one mention in 1926 when the Geelong Advertiser reported that, instead of the old type of strainers, an ever-increasing number of women were using a muslin tea bag inside the teapot. However, unlike the tea bag we know today, this was likely unbranded and possibly even a homemade affair.
The tea bag is said to have been invented by an American tea merchant Thomas Sullivan who, in 1908, sent out samples of his product in small silk bags. Several of the recipients simply dunked the bags in hot water rather than emptying out the samples and hence the tea bag was born. However, a Time article points to an earlier patent by Roberta C. Lawson and Mary Molaren of Milwaukee, although whether they ever produced the bags commercially is not stated.
By the late 1920s, Lipton was marketing tea bags in the United States. To people in other tea-drinking nations, including the United Kingdom and Australia, this remained for decades a subject of scorn. In 1949, the Kalgoorlie Miner called the tea bag “an oddment peculiar to America”. In The Age in 1950, the columnist Davina wrote:
I wonder how many Australians know what a “tea-bag” is. It is a device used by Americans (who are coffee-lovers) for making tea. They drop a little muslin bag of tea leaves in a pot of hot (not necessarily boiling) water or perhaps into the teacup itself. They later remove the bag – whether to keep it for another day I’m not sure.
In 1954, “Rosemary” wrote in the Narrogin W.A. Reliance Weekly:
I have heard it said that in America they “dunk” a tea-bag in a cup of hot water, call the resulting watery brew “tea” then decide that they prefer coffee after all.
Then, in 1958, we hear that the tea-bag is coming to Australia, as Dorothy Drain mentions in The Australian Women’s Weekly:
Tea-bags, long used on the other side of the Pacific, are being launched on the Australian market. I am not proposing to enter the lists for or against tea-bag tea, but I notice that the sellers make the point that they’re tidy and convenient.
The following year, Lipton was advertising its tea bags in Australia as the foolproof way for a husband to make an early morning cup of tea for his wife. According to the advertisement, this angelic husband (Mr B McLeod of Boronia) wrote a glowing testimonial saying “My wife thinks I’m Christmas since your handy little tea bags came along. She really appreciates a cup of tea in bed and it’s easy to be an “angel” when you can make tea this quick, clean way.” The advertisement implied that fussing with teapots needed housewifely skills, while even an unskilled male could manage a tea bag.
Despite this, it took some time before Aussies were prepared to abandon the teapot in favour of tea bags. Then, in 1968, Lipton introduced its first “jigglers” television commercial. According to Peter D. Griggs, in his book Tea in Australia: A History 1788-2000, the first 60-second commercial in the series showed people in many situations jiggling their tea bag in a cup, to the tune of “Jiggle in the morning, Jiggle in the evening, “Jiggle at suppertime”. In 1971, a follow-up commercial with a new jingle, “Everybody’s jiggling”, was produced by the noted Australian film director, Fred Schepisi. It won a silver at the Australian Film Institute and Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards.
Soon other tea brands. including Australia’s own Robur, were introducing their own products. Others decided that the way to go was instant tea, tackling the growing popularity of instant coffee head-on. Bushell’s was among the major brands to launch an instant variety, spruiking it as “The dawn of a new era in tea-making”. Other instant brands on the market included Nestle’s Nestea, Cuppa and Ceytea. None succeeded, and Bushells, formerly the market leader, saw its share of the market shrink as Australia embraced the tea bag.
Liptons was acquired by Unilever in 1971 and, as a result, by 1990 Unilever had become the world’s largest tea company. In Australia, Lipton has dominated the tea market in recent times. However, in November 2021 Unilever agreed to sell its global tea business to an investment group known as CVC Capital Partners.

6 BEST PRACTICES TO CREATE YOUR H1 TAGS
Are you looking to boost your website’s SEO and improve your site’s readability? Start with mastering the H1 tag! The H1 tag, an HTML heading, is vital for marking up your web page title. It’s the first thing both search engines and visitors notice, making it essential for SEO and user experience. But what makes it stand out from the other headings like H2 or H3? How do professional SEO services in Geelong do it?
Tumblr media
Let’s uncover it in this blog
WHY ARE H1 TAGS IMPORTANT FOR SEO?
H1 tags might not directly affect your ranking, but they’re still crucial for SEO. Here are three key reasons why:
1. H1S HELP SEARCH ENGINES UNDERSTAND CONTENT
Search engines try to understand what your pages are about from your H1 tags. So, write it more descriptively. For example, a blog post with the H1 “The Best Coffee Shops with Cats in the United States” clearly tells search engines the content of the page, making it easier for them to understand.
2. H1S IMPROVE THE USER EXPERIENCE
H1 tags enhance user experience by quickly informing readers about the page’s content, so SEO services in Geelong display the H1 as the largest text, making it easy for users to grasp the main topic at a glance. A good H1 can help visitors quickly assess the content’s value and ensure they find the information they are looking for.
3. H1S IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY
H1 tags aid accessibility by helping screen readers convey the page’s content to users who rely on these tools. Screen readers, which convert text to speech or Braille, use headings to navigate and understand the content structure. Descriptive H1 tags and an organised heading structure can make your site more accessible to everyone.
HOW TO INSPECT H1 TAGS ON A WEBPAGE?
You can easily check the H1 tags on any webpage, including your own, without needing special skills. Here are some common methods used by SEO services in Geelong and beyond:
1. VIEW THE PAGE’S SOURCE CODE
Right-click anywhere on the page and choose “View Page Source” or “Show Page Source” from the menu. This unlocks a new tab with the page’s source code. You can manually search for the <h1> tag or use the “Command + F” shortcut on Mac or “Ctrl + F” on PC and type “h1” to find it.
2. USE A BROWSER EXTENSION
Install a browser extension that highlights H1 tags on any webpage. For example, the H-tag Chrome extension will highlight all <h> tags on a page. More advanced extensions like Detailed SEO Extension provide extensive SEO insights, including title tags, meta descriptions, meta robots tags, and <h> tags.
3. USE A WEBSITE AUDIT TOOL
Various audit tools can scan your site to pinpoint issues with your H1 tags, such as missing, duplicate, or empty tags. For instance, a Site Audit includes information about your H1 tags in a detailed report on your website’s health and performance.
BEST PRACTICES FOR H1 TAGS
Follow these six best practices for H1 tags to enhance your SEO:
1. USE A SINGLE H1 PER PAGE
Each page should have only one H1 tag to create a clear hierarchy and logical structure. This helps readers and those using screen readers quickly understand the main topic of the page. Use H2 tags for subheadings and H3 tags for supporting subheadings.
2. ENSURE EVERY IMPORTANT PAGE HAS AN H1
Every crucial page should have an H1 tag. Focus on pages you want to rank well on Google. To find pages without H1 tags, use a site audit tool to identify and fix issues like missing or empty H1s.
3. INCLUDE YOUR TARGET KEYWORD
Incorporate your target keyword into the H1 tag to make it more relevant to search queries. This helps Google determine the page’s relevance to the search term, potentially improving its ranking.
4. KEEP H1 TAGS UNDER 60 CHARACTERS
Aim for H1 tags between 50 and 60 characters for clarity and conciseness. Many CMSs use the same text for both H1 and title tags, and Google may truncate longer tags in search results.
5. MATCH H1S TO TITLE TAGS FOR ARTICLE PAGES
For better results, SEO services in Geelong ensure the H1 tags match or closely resemble the title tags to avoid confusion and maintain consistency. So, follow the same practice to improve your web page’s performance in search results.
Note: Title tags appear in the browser tab and search engine results, while H1 tags are visible on the page itself.
6. OPTIMISE H1S TO SATISFY SEARCH INTENT
Your H1 tag should clearly indicate that your content meets the user’s search intent. Research the search intent for your target keywords by analysing top search results or using tools like Keyword Overview to understand what users are looking for. Craft your H1 and content accordingly to address their needs.
FINAL WORD:
Do you have a better understanding of H1 tags now? With practice, your skills will get better, and you will also see better results. But for more help, don’t hesitate to seek an expert like Make My Website, the best SEO company in Melbourne. Its SEO services are also widely available in Geelong, Perth, and other locations. So, schedule an appointment with its experts for a detailed discussion.

With a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of innovation, these compact cafes are redefining the coffee culture scene.
3. Offices: Workspaces on the Move

With amenities like air conditioning, electricity, and Wi-Fi, these mobile offices offer all the comforts of a traditional workspace minus the constraints of a fixed location.
4. Retail Spaces: Container Style
Retailers are always on the lookout for innovative ways to stand out in a crowded market. Enter the shipping container retail space—a novel approach to brick-and-mortar storefronts. These compact yet eye-catching shops can be easily customised to create a memorable shopping experience for customers.
From boutique clothing stores to artisanal food markets, shipping container retail spaces offer endless possibilities for entrepreneurs looking to make a statement with their brands.
5. Art Installations: Where Creativity Knows No Bounds
Art knows no bounds, and neither do shipping containers. These steel giants are finding new life as canvases for artists and sculptors around the world.

From street art festivals to public parks, these installations are transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary works of art.
6. Emergency Shelters: Providing Relief When It Matters Most

Melbourne
Up stupidly early given how little we have slept recently but it meant we got into the city and parked by 8.30 so we could find some coffee and breakfast. we parked just off Little Bourke St close to the Victoria Parliament building so after breakfast in a cafe we started our mammoth walking tour with the Parliament building and the Old treasury buildings before heading across Fitzroy Gardens towards Cooks cottage. I am surprised at how many buildings have Dutch gable effects and there are some stunning Victorian buildings with high decoration interspersed with the most modern of high rise within the central CBD. There are also a surprising amount of parks and in that sense it does remind me a little of London with the bustling city intersected by beautiful Victorian Parks , though there are far less people here than in London of course. As it is summer here the flowers and parks are laid out beautifully with loads of flowers and we also met some very tame local birds who are clearly used to approaching people.
At Cooks Cottage there was a useful info point where we were able to pick up some maps and here we also learned that within the central area the trams are totally free which we didn't know so later on we did make the most of that snippet of info.
After seeing Cooks Cottage we made our way back towards Federation Square getting coffee on the way and then crossed the Yarra River towards Skydeck. We hadn't prebooked but it was certainly not busy despite the Aussie Tennis Open being on in the city at present and we were some of the first in at 12 noon when it opened. The lift to the 88th floor takes 38 seconds and the view from the top was very clear with a fab view right round including out over the ocean. We could clearly see the Rod Laver tennis centre and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Although there was a breeze it wasn't windy so we could also go out into the outdoor caged area.
Once we had descended we walked down through the Queen Victoria Gardens and the Kings Domain to the Shrine of Remembrance which is a stunning epitaph to all those who have served in wars even a memorial to the horses. By now the heat had started to rack up and on the way back we did have to go both slowly and edge from patch of shade to patch of shade as it was simply too hot to be out in the open.
Back at Flinders Street we got the free tram out to the Docklands area. I think we both expected this are to be a bit busier and bustling with people but no, hardly anyone. There were just a few luxury yachts but we did find an amazingly good Lebanese restaurant and the food was amazing and frankly there was far to much for the two of us so we ended up with a large doggy box of food which should do us for tonight.
Then it was back to the tram and back to Bourke Street to the car about 3.30pm and then the attempt to get out of town to Geelong with a sat nav that was rubbish and didn't recognised road closures and with Andy following that instead of my instructions we did end up going through the city in quite an interesting and challenging manner. It doesn't help that to the west of Melbourne there is a major new highway being constructed at high level. It is going to take years but at present it is just traffic chaos.
we eventually got out and headed to our overnight motel in Geelong , clean and practical but nothing special but only 5 minutes from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry which we need to catch tomorrow at 7.30am.
Don't think it will be a late night!

Carpet Cleaning Hacks: Geelong Edition for Quick and Effective Results
Tumblr media
Maintaining clean carpets is essential for a healthy and inviting home environment. Geelong residents, like anyone else, face the challenge of keeping their carpets spotless. Fortunately, with the right hacks, you can achieve quick and effective results without the need for professional help. In this article, we'll explore some expert carpet cleaning tips specifically tailored for Geelong homes.
1. Prevention is Key
Before diving into cleaning hacks, consider preventive measures. Placing doormats at entrances and encouraging a 'no shoes' policy indoors can significantly reduce the amount of dirt and debris brought into your home. This simple step goes a long way in keeping your carpets cleaner for a more extended period.
2. Baking Soda Magic
Baking soda is a versatile and cost-effective cleaning agent. Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on your carpet and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. This helps absorb odors and loosens dirt. Vacuum thoroughly afterward for a refreshed and clean carpet.
3. DIY Carpet Cleaner Solution
Create an effective DIY carpet cleaner by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. Apply the solution to stains and blot with a clean cloth. The acidity of the vinegar helps break down stains, leaving your carpet looking as good as new. Ensure you test the solution on a small, inconspicuous area first to avoid any potential discoloration.
4. The Power of Club Soda
Club soda is a secret weapon against stubborn stains like red wine or coffee. Pour a small amount of club soda on the stain, blotting with a clean cloth. The carbonation helps lift the stain to the surface, making it easier to clean. Finish by blotting with a mixture of water and a mild detergent.
5. Freeze Gum Away
Accidentally stepped on chewing gum? Don't worry! Grab an ice cube and freeze the gum for about 30 seconds. Once frozen, gently lift the gum with a spoon or knife. This prevents the gum from smearing and minimizes damage to your carpet fibers.
6. Regular Vacuuming Routine
Regular vacuuming is crucial in preventing dirt buildup and maintaining a clean carpet. Invest in a high-quality vacuum cleaner and vacuum at least once a week. Pay extra attention to high-traffic areas and use nozzle attachments for edges and corners.
Now that you're armed with these Geelong-specific carpet cleaning hacks, it's time to put them into action and transform your living space. A clean and well-maintained carpet not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your home but also contributes to a healthier living environment.
Remember, consistency is key. Incorporate these hacks into your routine for long-lasting results. If you find yourself facing persistent or tough stains, don't hesitate to seek professional carpet cleaning services in Geelong for a thorough and deep clean.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Can I use these carpet cleaning hacks on all types of carpets? Yes, the majority of these hacks are suitable for various carpet types. However, it's advisable to test any cleaning solution in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility.
Q2: How often should I clean my carpets using these hacks? For routine maintenance, aim to incorporate these hacks into your cleaning routine at least once a month. High-traffic areas may require more frequent attention.
Q3: Are there any alternatives to club soda for stain removal? In the absence of club soda, a mixture of mild detergent and water can be an effective alternative. Always blot and avoid rubbing to prevent spreading the stain.
Q4: Can I use these hacks on old and stubborn stains? While these hacks are effective for many stains, older and stubborn stains may require professional cleaning services. Consider consulting with a carpet cleaning expert for the best results.
Implementing these carpet cleaning hacks in your Geelong home will not only enhance the appearance of your carpets but also contribute to a healthier and more comfortable living space. Try them out and experience the satisfaction of a clean and refreshed home environment.
